It’s finally time for the first locally grown strawberries! And the first Strawberry Cake!
Although the first strawberries aren’t as aromatic as they are later, these were extra sweet!
Have a very nice weekend! ;)
Beautiful cake! Is the cottage cheese you are using anything like Russian ‘tvorog’ by any chance?
Many thanks! ;) Now you caught me :) Unfortunately I am not familiar with ‘tvorog’ yet, but regarding what google say about should be something like that. Something between ricotta and pot cheese works the best for me.
The other day we found little tiny Russian store close to where I work – so far we only tried beers and Alenka Chocolate ;)
beauty! I love it when the strawberries are red all the way through. Your cake is gorgeous.
Thank you ;) I am always so happy when they are red in and out :D
Oh, so beautiful !!! I love strawberry shortcake, and this really “takes the cake”! ;-> I used four strawberries for garnish on this morning’s breakfast. They are plentiful here now.
Thank you Judilyn ;) Looks like you had way better breakfast as I did ;)
beautiful! have not seen cottage cheese is frosting before. Interesting–I think I would like :-) love the crumb, wow that looks good.
If combined with fresh fruits, cottage cheese is way healthier and lighter than mascarpone and gives that lovely texture. And thank you ;)
My spirit seem to take a leap at the thought of strawberry cake. And so beautiful! Looks yummy, too!
Is that the same spirit that convinced me to make it? ;) Was yummy, all gone, and thanks! Have fun ;)
Irena, that looks delicious! I kept scrolling waiting to see a slice. haha. I love how you layered the strawberries inside!
Thank you Cindy!!! When I started cutting it there was no more time to photograph, sorry ;)
whoever gets to eat that is super lucky! looks devine!
Thank you! I’ll tell them thew were lucky ;) Wish you all the best!
this would be so perfect for Mothers Day this weekend!
Thank you for that Anne! Totally agree with you!
Oh my gooodness Irene, you’ve done it again!
You truly have an eye for beauty and detail with your lovely settings – it’s always a pleasure receving your vivid photos in my inbox :)
I am so very flattered Angelica! As I love your photography!
Cottage cheese? I’ve used cream cheese before but never that. Your cake looks beautiful though!
COttage or pot cheese is lighter than cream cheese – I guess. Taste little bit different… Thank you for your kind compliments!
Looks yummy. Haven’t tried frosting with cottage cheese, maybe it’s about time!
Thank you Maya! I always love to try something new… Enjoy! ;)
So, SO gorgeous. Irena, how long does it typically take you to do a photo shoot start to finish? I am just in awe of your food styling/photo abilities in every single post!
Erika I am so very flattered! Especially as you have wonderful photos and recipes!
Preparing the table and photographing 5-10 minutes as I don’t want eat cold food. How much time do you need for yours?
Wow, really?? That is so fast, I’m so impressed! It usually takes me maybe between 30 min to an hour to complete a full photo shoot if I’m really trying. I need to take lessons from you! :)
I don’t like cool dinner so I have to do it fast :) But the results I ended up with aren’t always what I wanted ;) You put more effort that is why you have wonderful results and that is something I should learn from you!
Hi Irena! I just recognize you for the Best Moment Award. :) http://cottagegrovehouse.com/2013/05/10/best-moment-award-thank-you-lilly-sues-bites-and-brews/

Ooh, perfect for Mother’s day…I wouldn’t mind getting a cake like that :) Made my mouth water!
Oh, Irena, I so love these photos! Such a glorious homage to Spring, and the cake! I can almost taste it! I think you may have just changed my mind about how I feel about cake! Hope you are well, beauty; thanks so much for sharing all this gorgeousness! xo!
Your photography is so beautiful Irena! Looks like a gorgeously sweet tribute to the first beautiful crimson berries of Spring! I’ve never used cottage cheese in frosting before, but it sounds delicious! I think I’ll have to try this recipe xx
My fav kinda cake is strawberry. And yours looks… absolutely divine! Beautiful work.

I would love if you would check it out and also my blog! xoxo, Hayley http://www.dailydoseofdarling.com
This looks AMAZING! Your photography is beautiful, too. I’m also really excited that strawberries are back in season. They’re only a dollar for a box at the deli by my apartment!
